Employee professional development: skills for success

At Bare Bones Consulting, employers often ask our opinion on employee professional development and the skills that best translate into tangible business results. Here’s food for thought from a global professional body specialising in just that.

The World Economic Forum (WEF) is a Swiss non-profit foundation, “committed to improving the state of the world by engaging business, political, academic, and other leaders of society to shape global, regional, and industry agendas”.

During the foundation’s annual 5-day summit, 2500 business leaders, academics and experts publicise their predictions on industries of the future and the skills of employees required to work in these. The result is the World Economic Forum Future of Jobs Report.

The current report states that five years from now, over one-third (35%) of skills considered important in today’s workforce will have changed. Rapid change from digital disruption, automation, robotics and artificial intelligence is transforming not only the world we live in, but the skills needed to thrive professionally. Any employer looking to succeed in this rapidly changing environment will need a workforce competent in the soft skills that promote agility, adaptability and uniquely human traits.

So what does this mean for the average small to medium enterprise? Let’s take leadership development for example. Traditionally, leadership training is something occasionally offered to senior managers. At Bare Bones Consulting, we take a wider approach: if you want leadership attributes displayed in your business, doesn’t it make sense to grow this from within? Why wouldn’t employees at every level be exposed to the leadership skills you seek?

Bare Bones Consulting specialises in design and delivery of leadership training and professional development for all levels of your team; from entry level to executive.

Our programs are tailored to your business, operating environment, budget and people. We specialise in outcomes that mirror your strategic objectives. Our sessions are short, designed for maximum impact and retention and provide your team members skills they can use today…and into the future to make your business a success.

If you think investing in employee professional development is a waste of time and money, consider this:

Q: what if we spend money on training employees and they leave?
A: what if we don’t and they stay?
